The need to feel secure and control the events and situations around us may become an obstacle when it comes to our business or career. Sometimes, we leave our dreams behind, just to give ourselves in to the fear of insecurity and of taking risks and, as a consequence, we stay in a job we don't like or we avoid making neccessary changes to our business, just to find out that changes happen anyway and we find ourselves unprepared to handle them effectively. So learn how to use your need for security to manage unexpected changes and overcome your fear to take risks, successful!
As Thomas A. Edison said ‘What you are, will show in what you do’. Behind any effort for achieving a goal there are human beings, who are affected by a system consisting of certain needs, feelings, values and beliefs. Therefore, every one of us acts in a unique way towards achieving his or her goals and dreams. When our system is aligned with the goal, and the actions taken to achieve it, then our mind works in favor of the effort for the goal’s achievement, while when we go against our system, then our mind acts as saboteur to it.
This is why it is vital to become aware of the most important information needed, before setting and start working on a business goal, or on any goal, and that information is to know who we really are! We all have the same needs. According to Tony Robbins, the Peak Performance Strategist, human needs are grouped in the following six categories:
All of these needs exist within us, but what makes the difference is how we place each one of them in our hierarchy. How important is for us to feel safe or significant? And how willing are we to take risks, in order to satisfy our need for variety? Also, each one of us, has his or her personal story and life’s experiences that have influenced our beliefs and have shaped our values. Therefore, it is important to understand that in order to serve a goal we’ve set, and serve it in an awesome way, we have to see this goal as part of who we are. And if we want to have lasting results, we need to see this goal as a mission important for us to achieve, because it represents the way we perceive the world, and the way we feel and behave. We have to find a purpose in it, which means a lot to us, in order to have the strength to go on, when the hard times come in our way, and to feel the excitement, whenever we achieve successfully an action step.
On the other hand, setting a goal that is based on what seems important to the society we live in and being affected by our social circles, neglecting to connect with what we really want and who we really are, won’t bring the desired outcome for success, as, subconsciously, we try to go against our will and our vision of what success and happiness means to us. Has ever happened to you to already being on the way of a goal’s achievement and suddenly you stop for a moment and you ask yourself: “Why am really doing this? What is the point?” Thus, it is important to listen to our inner self and find the perfect match between the goal we’ve set and our system of needs, beliefs, values and feelings. For example, if we want to start up our own business, and to keep the flame burning, throughout the way, we should check how our goal will serve our system. If for us it is important to feel significant, we need to find the way we will make a difference to the world with our products or services. If we lead a group of people, and we give high importance to the need of contribution, we can satisfy this need by helping our people grow and give them space to express themselves and their creativity. If honesty is a strong driver in our life, the ways we choose to follow in order to reach our goal, should go hand in hand with this value, as using methods, not accepted by our inner self, will cause a conflict between our goal’s achievement and what we represent as human beings.
Thus, the point of this article is to emphasize the significance of knowing who you are as a success factor for your goal. Believe me, you can achieve anything you want, as long as you understand why it is so important for you to achieve it. No matter what kind of goal you want to succeed in, if this goal is part of who you are, and you make sure you keep this connection live in your mind, you will make it happen. Because, not making the decision to take action towards achieving your dream and goal will always make you feel unsatisfied and that there’s something missing from your life. This feeling will keep you constantly on the move, searching for this something that will be able to satisfy your inner needs. On the contrary, trying to achieve a goal that it doesn’t represent who you are, or that you haven’t find a link to connect it with your system of needs, values and beliefs, will keep you demotivated and the chances of success are not with your side.
So if you want to live a successful life, set the right goal for you, know why this is important and go with all your heart and commitment to get it!
Do you have a burning desire to achieve a goal or a dream you have? And if yes, what's stopping you from going after it? Most people leave their dreams and goals unfulfilled, because they believe that they are not enough to make them happen. Either they feel that they lack the necessary skills and knowledge, or even attitude, or they feel that they’re going to fail anyway, so they don’t bother starting working on their goal at all. They try to avoid the pain of failure and they stay stuck on those things they know and trust, even though they don’t really make them feel happy and successful. But even the idea that they could fail, and prove their friends and relatives right that they’ve shouldn’t have tried in the first place, is so forbidding that they never really make the decision to change their life and put their plan, for achieving their goal, in action.
But let me ask you this; what is really more painful? Take the risk and go after your dream and goal and maybe fail the first time you try it or stay in your comfort zone for ever and settle with the idea that you’re not enough for achieving such goals as the one you desire to achieve? The first choice gives you the option of getting a feedback of what went wrong. In this way, you can alter your plan, use other ways and methods, test and try and finally succeed. The second option gives you no option! It holds you back from living a life you want and makes you feel like a horse that has tremendous power, but it is loaded with so much weight that it’s not able to take a single step. And this step is all the negative thoughts and limiting beliefs you carry for so long in your mind. “I’m not good enough”, “I can’t make it”, “Who am to start and run a successful business?”, “I don’t have what it takes”, “These dreams are too big for me” and “Why should my ideas and goals make a difference to the world?”, “I always fail, why not this time again?”.
All these negative thoughts drain your mind and disappoint you from doing anything you enjoy in life, because you always feel that you don’t have what it takes and others, that have succeeded, are much better than you. But, this is not true! You have tremendous power within you. You just let your fear and limiting beliefs overshadow it and this is why you feel that you don’t have any power left.
It’s ok to keep your feet on the ground, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t start working towards achieving your goals and dreams. To overcome your fear of failure, or the feeling you’re not good enough, use your reasoning and write down your strengths and weaknesses. Use your strengths as tools to help you succeed and work on your weaknesses to fill in the gap of what you need more, in order to achieve your goal. And remember, if you know exactly what you want, why this so important to you and have a plan on how to get it, you’re more than enough to reach your goal successfully!.
